"Toprak ve Sonrası" Installation

Located in Adana, the "Earth and Beyond Workshop" was led by the Solidified Design team in collaboration with ATELIER FY, a firm based in Şanlıurfa specializing in stabilized earthen blocks. The project created a semi-permeable wall pattern and a small exhibition space, constructed over three intensive days with selected students from regional universities.

The workshop began with an introduction to digital design tools, offering participants hands-on experience. On the first day, students learned to use Rhino and Grasshopper software, creating parametric brick patterns for the exhibition space.

During the second and third days, stabilized earthen bricks—around 700 pieces—were precisely placed using digital fabrication tools in just half a day. This gave participants an opportunity to engage with parametric design and explore its applications in a practical construction process.

The workshop aligned with the festival's theme, "And Beyond," and was a direct response to this creative prompt. The bricks were strategically oriented to the South, considering Adana's hot climate, and their perforated design enriched the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces. As a double-skin wall, the bricks offered a passive solution to reduce heat while their hygroscopic nature sparked discussions about maintaining humidity balance in Adana’s humid climate.

By combining traditional construction techniques with contemporary design tools, the workshop explored sustainable solutions for the future. The installation attracted significant interest during the three-day event, promoting both individual and collective learning experiences while bridging the past, present, and future of architectural design
